Nose displays tropical fruits along with lemon zest. Beautiful delineation on the mid palate with pineapple, pears and honeycomb. Great viscosity and balance with perfect acidity. Finished sweet and exotic. Outstanding.

These brutal TX summers can make it difficult to crave heavy meals, so some sort of grazing board with lots of options is definitely ideal.

A quick note: Even for me, opening Aubert this young is usually something I don’t even consider (aside from their Hudson). After enjoying some other 2017s that someone opened earlier this week, I was surprised at how open they were. I believe the vintage gives these wines more opulent and early enjoyment than normal.

As always, I believe this to be Aubert’s most acid driven wine. Almost spritz like. Aromatically it is a mix of bright citrus, honeysuckle, honey roasted cashews and lemon confit. On the palate, the entry shows strong acidity before it fades away. Lemon cream, ginger, copious amounts of tropical fruit and a somewhat surprising kiss of mineral/limestone. Aubert’s entire lineup is among the best, but this is normally towards the back of the pack for my taste profile (which means it’s still among the best Cali chards, in my opinion).

Fun to try one of Aubert’s more acidic chards with age...still drinking just fine. Gained some darker color. Guava, mango, nectarine on the nose and palate with a limestone type finish.

Weekly Wednesday Wine Committee lunch...always such a treat to attend. This week, Dan hosted. 1 sparkler, 3 whites, 4 reds and 1 dessert wine. All blind as usual.

These Carneros chards from Aubert always throw me for a loop. I pegged this as a west coast Chardonnay, but thought it was a Kistler. Very sharp mineral notes and acid...very different than Aubert’s other chards. I’ve not had the Hudson which is similar. This started off sweeter than expected and really transformed in the glass to show more floral/honeyed cashews that led me to west coast Chardonnay.

Brief tasting notes from the annual Fort Worth Food & Wine Festival. Whites knocked it out of the park this year.

Was kind of shocked a wine of this caliber would be at a mass tasting. Figured it would be one of their appellation wines...imagine my surprise when I saw it was their LH&S! 2016...BABY. Almost a sin to drink these this young, but this drank better than other young Aubert’s I’ve had. Laser focused minerality, lemon tart, lemon cream, toasted almonds.

This is more like it, right @David L ? On the nose at pop and pour, it had a sulfur/rubber note to it. Faded a bit with an hour of being open...went more to toasted hazelnut. On the palate, Aubert’s signature lemon cream came in to play. Beautiful texture. Wraps the palate in almost a cotton candy note and burnt nutmeg. Best Larry & Hyde I’ve had.
