Gave this 90 min of air in a decanter before touching it. Dark tawny and mostly translucent. Exciting nose. Notes of sour cherries, rhubarb, slate stone, some menthol and iron, old desk wood, spice and a touch of kirsch. Dusty fruit in the mouth with a long finish. Can probably benefit from a bit more age to develop more complexity. Plenty of life in front of it and pretty dynamic tonight.

Jan 18th, 2020Garnet center with tawny rims. Flamboyant nose. Notes of ripe black cherries, cola, some camphor and a little menthol. Warm and inviting. Amazing impact in the mouth. Powerful. Gobs of fruit to go with a big backbone. Really good.

Mar 9th, 2016The Robert Groffier Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru 2002 is an endless ribbon of garnet-hued silk. Black cherries, dried rose petals, rich humic soil, and wild mushrooms waft from the glass. Sensual, viscous and more generously styled as compared to the Bouchard Clos de Bèze tasted earlier this week. High toned red fruit—pomegranite and rose hips offers a bit of lift. This lovely Pinot is graced with body and depth, and yet manages to be virtually weightless. 13.5% ABV

May 6th, 2015Delicate silky with an ethereal, spicy finish. A taste of smoke and anise finishes out. Soft tannins. A 1999 vintage, I would love to see the wine's evolution after a few more years.
