in a beautiful place. the young, toasty oak is fully integrated and leaves the leather, tart cherry to be fully present. starting to feel a little thin so i’m thinking 10-15 year age on these is optimal.

Maraschino cherries. Full body. Great balance. 15% alc. balances the Barbera acidity. Hot finish.

Succulent, deep, pure, and full of character. Nose is high-toned and alluring with it’s balanced combo of fruit and savory elements. Ripe black cherry, crushed wild raspberry, violets, graphite, tar, wet leather, turned earth, truffle and animal. Palate is juicy, black cherry, pomegranate, and raspberry, almost liquor-like. Graphite, minerals, fresh meat, alpine herbs, tar, kiss of iron. Classic Barbera structure, acid driven and supportive yet fine tannin. So soulful, a humbling reminder of the potential Barbera has in the right hands.

Dinner with friends in Brooklyn proceeded with this rather interesting Barbera. I like Barbera a lot. I also like that it is a fraction of the price of the Barolos. The Scudetto, aged ten years, was showing beautifully with dense black fruits and plenty of grip. Ripe but with bite, it went beautifully with the lovingly prepared home cooked meal.

The best baby Barolo drinks well younger... Lovely at $75 in a restaurant!
