Another lovely showing from a lineup of wines sampled at Terra Blanca. The 2009 Onyx is drinking beautifully—an elegant Bordeaux-style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec, all from the winery's Red Mountain estate. Generous, layered aromas of blackberries, cassis, ripe plum, bay leaf, and cedar lead into a wine that is focused and finely tuned. Powdery tannins act as a foundation to a black-fruited core. Spice, incense and green peppercorn on the close. 13.5% ABV Sample | 9.2 Points

Big, stemmy, and round, ripe fruit. Very red mountain (heady/high octane). Ripe cherry and strawberry notes. A little lacking in tannic structure but a pleasing wine.

Black cherry, cassis, blackberry, mocha smooth mouthfeel. Would like a little more acid. 2009 vintage

My bottle was likely oxidized already. Just strong tasting with no merit or character. Color already bad with significant bricking, so this may be an uncharacteristic bottle.

This aged very well. Magnum format. Wouldn’t wait much longer to drink though.

Very nice, in a great window. Still quite a lot of fruit but has great development of secondary characteristics and still vibrant acidity. Tannins fully resolved and very nice.

Wow did that have a lot more flavor and pepper kick than I was expecting. Great with steak.
