Cuvée Vieilles Vignes Clos de la Roche Grand Cru Pinot Noir

Pnp perfection with a captivating and explosive layered bouquet of candied red cherries, rose petals, coffee beans and exotic spices. The palate is luxuriously silky with obvious grand cru weight and intensity and there is stunning purity and elegance to balance such power and exhilarating energy. An incredible combination. Its spice and mineral laced finale just keeps on going. One of the best CDLR’s in the biz was perfect tonight.

Delicate roses and red cherry. Soft with signs of age. A hint of orange peel. Freshness too though. Very pretty-good lift

12 years between bottles and this wine has gone from strength to strength. A complex nose of cherry, spice and earth. Some green but not because of under ripeness or vintage. On the palate waves of cherry, cranberry, and loads of spice. Lingers in the mouth. Only improved in the decanter. In the context of the vintage this would be rated 2-3 points higher.
( does anyone know why the added label states, Burgundy dessert wine?)

A full bodied fruit rich clos de la roche. Still needs some time to develop but drinks beautifully. Perfect remedy for a dreary Sunday afternoon.

A little bit more precision than the 2012 and a bit more masculin, great effort in a colder year.

Beautiful clos de la roche. Very precise, strawberries and black currants, very silky. Last bottle

Fading, but not dead. Still quite brightly coloured with mild bricking. The nose was strong and quite enjoyable, with notes of incense, tomato, dried roses, and suggestions of red fruits. The palate was still showing some nice acidity and velvety texture, but the fruit was just too dried to provide any proper pleasure. To me, it drank like any old red wine that has just passed its peak (if that makes sense). You can definitely sense an underlying strength, so perhaps a bottle with better provenance would have proven profound.

Em magnum. Beautiful deep color. Amazing texture. Nose of crushed rose petals, kirsch liquor, subtle underbrush and charcoal. Still super young but a treat to try nonetheless

On to the reds and a blind 90 Ponsot horizontal I’m surprising the boyz with. All served blind. First up is the CdlR VV, which we’ve all had many, many times. Dark reddish tawny with a perfumed nose. Notes of bing cherry, sweet rhubarb, some earth and some tantalizing spice. Silky, rich and opulent in the mouth. Coats everything it hits with a big blanket of fruit. Perfect balance of structure, acidity and fruit – all aging in harmony. Super long finish. (Bday 6 of 12)
