Über Santa Barbara County Syrah

14’ Margerum Uber Syrah. Black raspberry jelly doughnut. 

Dark, bloody, fatty, smokey, plummy.

Opened up nice very deep blue fruits, mushroom Forrest floor, and mint.

Would love to revisit in a decade. Wild ferment, perpetual 45 day ferment. New and used french oak. Incredibly dynamic, changed dramatically over the hours. Starting out fresh and floral. Almost confected in its macerated blue fruit profile. Lots of dried herbs present. Vanillin and bruleed character to the finish. Then, over a couple hours, it became really peppery(dusty white pepper) and full of fresh lavender and violets. After being decanted for over four hours, the fruit became tart and the acid became more noticeable. This wine is fantastic. The finish goes for an eternity. It had a different story every hour. Loved it.

Integrated complexities and nuances, powerful, shades of old and new world.

Hedonistic. Big and bold - Uber is right but they pull it off nicely.

First thing I said when I smelled this: "Awwwwyeaaahhh". I still stand by that. Smoky meaty roasted raspberry, boysenberry and pink peppercorn, tea leaf, fresh green leafy herbs. Ripe and powerful attack, but the smoky salami and campfire ash notes are what linger on the palate. Impressive stuff.

This is lovely, one of my favorite Margerum Syrahs.
