Ciabot Mentin Barolo Nebbiolo

Surprisingly deep ruby in color but while it didn’t resemble most Nebbiolo wines to the eye it was clearly there on nose and palate. Black cherry, red cherry, cranberry, plum, violet, rose, tar, leather, cedar, truffle, prune, dried cherry, eart and forest floor. Terrific balance of the opulent flavors with the high acidity and ripe tannin. This was terrific.

Slow ox’ed overnight. Day one, this was thin and brutally tannic. Typical ruby color in the glass with a faint orange rim. Aromatics of underripe strawberries, bing cherry, thyme, little VA, medicinal. Saved other half of bottle for following day.

Second day, the mid-palate has gained depth and the finish, while still tannic (even with food), was much more agreeable. More floral aromatically with tar, cherry menthol, and herbs de Provence at the finish.

I’d hold another 5-7yrs. For what it’s worth, I don’t drink much Italian wine but if I do, it’s normally Merlot or BdM.

Needs some more time but a nice bottle of Barolo.

Gorgeous wine. Tart and dried fruits, with spice and savory elements. Delicate and balanced. A joy on its own.

Showing well but the International hints in style still dominate more than I care for

Thought the french oak would overpower this wine even in the 08 but the wine is solid and balanced. Nothing to dislike here.

Warm and complex and comfortable in ways only Nebbiolo can. Great pairing with squab.

Weighty and serious, with promise of more elegance to come. The oak is well integrated. Good value purchase from the Garagiste guy.
