Tenuta delle Terre Nere
Prephylloxera La Vigna di Don Peppino Etna Rosso Nerello Mascalese Nerello Cappuccio

Popped and poured; no formal notes. This was opened during a wild night of nerdy bacchanalian excess and from what I recall, it was absolutely gorgeous in an Italy meets Burgundy sort of way. It was elegant and transparent…and yet had palpable substance, depth and class. I’ve had many of the single contrada wines produced by Tenuta delle Terre Nere but never before the Prephylloxera wines. That being said, I recently enjoyed the 2019 “Moganazzi” and this was a noticeable step up. The fruit for the “La Vigna di Don Peppino” comes from less than a hectare of ungrafted vines from the “Calderara Sottana” contrada. These vines date back to the 1880’s or earlier; which is bananas. This was flat out gorgeous and had me dreaming about trying this again in 2033. The quality is undeniable; showing well in its youth but this will be more complete after 2028.

whoa, floral, woodsy, pine sap, raspberry jelly. ripe on the palate. firm tannins. so pretty. could go another 5- maybe more.

Superb. Elegant with all the elements. Great fruit, soft tannins and enough acidity to hold it in good stead for many more years

A wine that reveals itself in stages. A fabulous nose of red fruit and the scent of a seasoned cast iron skillet. The creamy red fruit is an assault on your palate The wonderfully concentrated fruit is eventually joined by pepper, ash and mineral like notes. Put weight on while it was in the decanter but never lost its elegance. @Marc Goldstein Puritan was a wonderful experience with some of the best appetizers I have ever consumed, swordfish pastrami, bbq beets and beef carpaccio.

In great form right now. Lots of fruit with savory mushroom notes growing through the evening. Good length and balance.

Outstanding, spicey, volcanic, high minerality. Very drinkable now, highly perfumed.
