The 2013 Comtes de Champagne is a towering Champagne, as it was last year. Rich, sumptuous and explosive, the 2013 soars out of the glass with a captivating mix of tropical fruit, apricot, passion fruit, baked apple tart, mint and yellow flowers. For me the question for this cuvée is never, “ is it good?”. The question is , “how good is it?” Not as powerful as other vintages but it makes up for it with balance and complexity. I am sure this will age but it is in a very good drinking window right now.

I had this a few years ago and thought this needed another 3-4…apparently wasn’t wrong. Not as stellar as the 07. Starting come into its own. Golden apple, green apple, lime pulp, tropical melon, just ripe pineapple, ripe pear, vanillin, caramel, cream, sea spray, alluvial limestone minerals, beautiful mid grain chalkiness, brioche, baguette crust, nice, soft yeastiness, jasmine, yellow lilies, really nice acidity, well structured, balanced, delicious finish that lasts two-minutes. 🌹

Apr 16th, 2023A great vintage for comtes kind of flies under the radar . 2004 is a great Chardonnay vintage for Champagne . Golden delicious apples , brioche , liquid minerals . Lovely depth and balance on the palate with some secondary nuances starting to develop. A gorgeous comtes to drink over the next decade or two.

Taken to our friend’s place on the Big Island for a great dinner. This was young, bright and tight with ample acidity. Still a baby.
