I love this under-the-radar winery, which specializes in century-old sand-grown reds from Contra Costa. This wine is a smorgasbord of scents and flavors. Earth, caramelized baking spices, iodine, dark berry oozings, vanilla. So rich, it's like liquid food. But, amazingly, it avoids jamminess and heat. Possibly the best wine I've had from these folks yet.

Rich dark fruit but deceptively smooth & not cloy. Would be awesome with pork tenderloin in a hoisin sauce

Lovely old vine (128 years old) Mataro from Contra Costa County east of SF, rich redfruits, still well-structured, not overly extracted, just pure with a long, lingering finish, ideally needs more cellaring.

Dark and thick. Inky dark fruit, blackberry, menthol, black plum skin, bramble, some oak. Tannins sit on top of the tongue. Acidity trickles down the side. There’s an initial tartness, maybe the black plum skin. The menthol and wood notes creep in with leather emerging. Blackberry and bramble round out the flavor. This is the best I’ve had from 3 Wine Co.
