Big and rich. Doesn't skimp on flavor. Smoky and very ripe. I love that Matt Cline respects these historic 100 year old vineyards, but I can't help but wonder how much more amazing these wines would be if he picked a bit earlier.

A field blend in the true sense of the word this wine is a blend of 5 different grape varietals. Rich nose of red plum, blackberry with hints of cinnamon & allspice rounding it out. The palate is full bodied and decadent with flavors of plum sauce, sweet tobacco, along with cocoa and baking spices on a long finish. Paired quite well with homemade spaghetti and meatballs! ($19) [4/6/21]

Every year this is very good. Zin, Carignane, Mataro, Alicante, and God knows what else, grown in one of the most unique terroirs anywhere. Rich sweet spiced berries and moist earth nose. Pure, soft, rich flavors, but with decent acids providing a tangy finish. If you cook Italian or Portuguese, this will be nice. $15 from WineAccess.com.

This tastes like Primitivo to me, given the VA and herbaceousness. Which makes a lot of sense, of course. Not a bad thing!

Big, rich, maybe just a little too ripe (as @Tom Casagrande pointed out in a note about an earlier vintage), but still a nice, solid, old vine field blend, Contra Costa County history!!

Lovely dark burgundy color. Bountiful thick legs. Spice, plum and cherry on the nose. Easy drinking, muted fruit, old leather, smooth tannins. (Grilled porterhouse, sautéed shiitake & king oyster mushrooms- thank you Kristin - grilled asparagus) paired well with the dinner, pleasant young wine.

Solid good value daily wine. Earthy and complex dark fruits - dark cherry mostly - with spice and smoke. Well balanced. I like it’s uniqueness and am still trying to get a handle on the flavors. Probably best to be paired with slightly spicy food. Finish highlighted by a subtle lingering undergrowth.

This was a big, rich, generous bottle of wine. Each sip was a mouth-filling cocktail of macerated red and black fruits with hints of vanilla and spice. Very supple! 39% Carignan, 26% Mataro, 17% Zinfandel, 11% Petite Sirah, 5% Alicante Bouchet, 2% Black Malvoisie. 5/18/22.

Nice blend- 44% carignan, 17 zin, 4 or 5 more. Balanced, fruity- not too jammy- delicious. Wish I had more.

Dark fruits on the nose. Leathery cherry on the front. Strong tannins.
