We finished the night with carrot cupcakes from our bakery that really knows what they are doing. Paired pretty well with the 2007 Eisrebe. Not the best pairing I’ve done but, it did fit the bill.

This was a bottling I’ve overlooked for some time. While we loved Phelps wines, the Eisrebe was never going to stand above the many bottles of Sauternes we’ve had and collected. This is fine, just not outstanding which, is why we stopped taking in our club shipments and it’s persisted in my cabinets.

The nose reveals; marmalade, candied stone fruits, dry pineapple, lemon juice, oranges & tangerines, mixed nuts, toffee, honey notes, powdery, chalky limestone minerals, saline, yellow flowers and lilies.

The body is full, round, thick and waxy. The fruits are very sweet and candied...a little too sweet. marmalade, candied stone fruits, dry pineapple, lemon juice, lime zested candy, some grapefruit with sugar, oranges & tangerines, mixed nuts, toffee, beeswax, honey, caramel, corn syrup, powdery, chalky limestone minerals, saline, grainy volcanic minerals, yellow flowers and lilies. The acidity is round & quite excellent. The round, waxy, rich, lush, sweet finish is good and persists with great balance but, for me, a little too sweet.

Photos of; the Estate vines as viewed from their terrace, old barrels that decorate their tasting lounge, tasting terrace and main lounge area as you walk past check in.

It's not La Tour Blanche but a nice buffer to end the night with my mother in law 😁

Not knowing how well these age, I was quite pleased when fresh vibrant aromas of baked apricot, honey and peach marmalade arose from the deep rose-colored '95 Joseph Phelps Late Harvest Scheurebe 'Eisrebe'. Viscously rich and sweet, but with tangy acidity that kept it from being cloying. Well-balanced and intense on the spicy finish.

7.5% alc.
Sugar at harvest = 24 Brix.
Residual sugar = 17.4%

My bad for serving this at room temperature which showed significant VA and sourness.

Not an ice wine in its true sense as the grapes were not harvested frozen on the vines.

It lacks the nutty and molasses notes I often associate with ice wine, in particular from Canada, and certainly not as rich. Still very enjoyable with lovely tropical fruits and floral notes. Viscous yet refreshing.

100% Scheurebe, which is a crossing of Riesling and Bukettraube, and was created by German viticulturalist Georg Scheu - hence the name Scheurebe (Scheu Vine).
