Opened and poured into a decanter immediately prior to service. The 2017 “Cerasuolo di Vittoria Classico” pours a deep, slightly hazy ruby color with a translucent core. Medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of funky strawberries (leaves and all), dark cherries, forest floor, horse blanket (yes, there is a kiss of brettanomyces), some dried herbs, and some light spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes on the nose. The finish is medium+, tart and slightly savory. A lovely wine with character and Sicilian charm. Drinking well now with a short decant and should continue to do so through 2030 with ease.

This seemed to have more heft than other COS bottling ive tried and lacked a bit of the producers usual elegance for me. But this was still really good and a slice of Lou Malnati’s to accompany is a wonderful thing

Medium garnet; medium plus intensity aromas of black cherry, red cherry dried black plum, intense florals, herbs de Provence, forest floor, intense sweet baking spices; dry, medium plus acid, medium smooth tannins, medium alcohol, medium body, pronounced intensity flavors consistent with aromas; medium plus finish, extremely complex and well concentrated, outstanding

Beautifully perfumed and elegant cherry with a damp soil earthiness. Excellently & transparently crafted.

Aromas of Cherry earth and mineral. Barely medium weight on the palate with light Tannins. These wines are designed to be drunk from vintage to about 5 years. No point in further cellaring - a fabulous food wine.

Hard to beat this producer in anything... seriously one of the best Nero d'Avola you can get.

Cherries, savory herbs, roses. Awesome, as would be expected!

Mid crimson in colour. Nose of cherry and other red fruits. On the palate barely medium weight. More red fruits on the palate with a savoury twist. Fresh and juicy texture with supple fine Tannins. No need for further cellaring. 60% Nero d’Avola, 40% Frappato. Made for food.

If this wine could sing it would fill the air with a brooding, heavy, bass-driven melody with a tenor backing that sneaks in and takes over to finish. Heavy at first, leathery and dark forest, it gradually opens into a more bright and fruit forward drink with red cherry and rich exotic spices. Much more poetic than this description.
