Rustic nose with soil, dried red fruit. Medium minus body, medium plus alcohol. Sangiovese dominates in a Chianti style-- little complexity. A bit bitter on the palate with cranberry. Medium plus tannins. Short finish.

I’m enjoying this way too much for $30.

From the originators of Brunello, this super is named after a famous volcanic rock. And it’s true to those origins. It’s strong and earthy, but not too dirty and old. It has those leather and tobacco notes that I want but it’s balanced with a beautiful floral arrangement, primarily violet and wildflower.

An alpine mountain during spring snowmelt.

Nicely developed, saddle leather and dried cherries. Lacking a little something on mid palate but delicious for the price (35€)

From .375. Decent red fruit, good acidity, fair length. Like almost every other nondescript Italian red, it’s a good pasta wine. Loses points for distracting VA. Overpriced.

Surprisingly good. Leather, sweet cherry, mushrooms, and plenty of acid left.

Mmmm, the nose is addictive. Leather and dried red fruit, cardamom and plum. Plush black plum on the palate with some new sweet oak on the back end. Quite nice 100% Sangiovese.

Tannins. Light to medium. I love shopping for good values in over priced shops.
