Arguably our favorite US cab. A little more relaxed on the nose and palate. While still very enjoyable, I felt this has begun its decent. It’s subtle, even though the fruits and wood treatment are still evident, alcohol plays a much more prominent role. I need to try the same vintage once more, but I’m thinking that these wines may not have longevity beyond seven or so years.

This is a clone of the 2018. Flashy but not exuberant. Riveting notes of blueberry jam on the mid palate. Tannins and acidity are harmonious. Finishes long and sweet. This is a benchmark in its class.

Half the price of La Pelle with the same amount of palate traction. We absolutely love this wine.

Wight Vineyard always delivers. Black cherry, cedar, pencil lead, supple tannins, a fine finish. Everything you want from a St. Helena Cabernet. Cheers!

Last night we opened this 2019 Lewelling Wight Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon single Vineyard from St. Helena, California.

On the nose there is black cherry, blackberry, black plum, black currant, pencil shavings, violets, spice and some earthy undertones.

On the palate great notes of black cherry, blackberry, blueberry, black currant, cassis, mint, mocha, graphite, spice, violet and damp earth.

This is a full bodied wine very smooth and velvety for such a young wine medium + acidity and medium + grippy tannins that leave you with a long black fruit graphite earthy finish. Have a great weekend and stay safe and healthy. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

Super silky and great fruit aromatics. Mid-life so have another in about 3 years. Great with brisket last night.

The wine critics were bang on with the Lewelling 18’s. The estate cab is much better than the Wight, at least in my opinion.
This is still very good, but the Wight bottling already set a high watermark that was not approached here.

Generous sweet fruit. Silky tannins. Kirsch, plums, just the right amount of acid and leafy savory punch to give this freshness. Really seductive.

Had a lovely visit here in early 2020 with Haley. I feel like these wines don’t get as much recognition as they should, especially based on the quality of the fruit and the wine.

I opened this and gave it a quick pour…first thought was it was just kind of there. Wasn’t expressive, but wasn’t flawed. About 15-30mins later, it finally blossomed. For me, I always get a distinct note out of Wight vineyard…normally a high toned cherry/sweetened raspberries and sometimes a kiss of eucalyptus. I got all of that here on both the nose and palate, just slightly toned down. At 15.3ABV for 2005, this was well balanced and integrated. After corking the remaining third and having for dinner, it sported a lot of cherry chewing tobacco with herbal crusted ripe black cherries. This is bridging the gap between new world and old at this point. Best to consume in the next couple years if you want that balanced profile.

This wine is so expertly crafted with Wight vineyard fruit..it really sets itself apart from Napa estate Cabernets in its harmonious balance of acidity, silky tannins, layer upon layer of gorgeous, fine bright and deep berry notes. Pencil shavings, cooked plums, anise and on and on. A bargain at any price. Cheers!
