A tannic monster. Figured a wine named "Wild Boar" is appropriate for Father's Day. This is so freaking dark in notes, but the color wouldn't allude to that. Color is red/purple and smells hot. Red licorice, peppercorn, anise on the nose. High tannins on the palate. Cedar, smoky, beef jerky notes to it. Spicy rhubarb too. If opening now, this needs at least a two hour decant.

Wonderful aromatics of barrel toast, cinnamon and maple syrup.

On the palette, the wine is deftly balanced with perfect acidity and polished tannins, creating a wonderful structure. Finishes with cherries, maple syrup and saddle leather.

We were worried that this may have past its prime - not a bit of it.

Been a few years since I last had it, and it's improved significantly. Decanted over two hours and it is very nice. Soft tannins, loads of black fruit. A little tobacco and some menthol perhaps? A very good wine from a terrible vintage.

Smooth cab. Let it breathe for an hour or so (we used a wide carafe). Berry/cherry nose, a bit of wood (pencil, in a good way), finish is shorter than it could be. Very nice with grilled hanger steak.
