This might be my first wine from Vézelay, at least as much as I can recall. I wasn’t looking for a Vézelay when I dropped into my local, rather I was looking for a Chablis to bring to a tasting. My local wasn’t really happy with his Chablis selection and recommended this instead; a northern white Burgundy of another kind.

The wine poured a bright straw color with medium viscosity and no signs of particles or gas. The nose: medium+ intensity with notes that would describe Carmen Miranda’s fruit headdress. Star fruit, mango, and pineapple…like ripping open a pack of tropical Starburst. After some time, the nose evolves to include lemon verbena. On the nose, again tropical fruit with pineapple, lemoncello, and steely minerals. Acid is medium+ and finish is medium and satisfying. In the end, this wasn’t a perfect substitute for Chablis but it was certainly fun and something I would be happy to drink again, assuming this is indicative of other wines from the region.

Great white burg. But still might not be as great as the soeur cadette which is cheaper.

Very nice white burgundy. Crisp and balanced. Dry with lots of minerals and elegant finish.

A little golden with age - soft nose - ok flavors, round and a little oxidized!
