Not as enjoyable, or even as interesting, as previous vintages/bottles. Volatile character was off putting.

I’ve been looking forward to trying Leroy for a long time. It is an amazing wine as it is poured, and it develops a rather quick multidimensional flourishing in the glass before moving into realms of varying volatility. Blistering acidity and so many aromatics, from stupendous to stern. What a wine, amazing and quite refined on its warp speed towards vinegar and wildness. Very Chenin and very natural.

A reductive nose, which blew off in about 20 minutes. In the mouth you stop for a second and ask yourself, Jura? Oxidative palate yet crazy levels of freshness. A fire hose of acidity that assaults your mouth but is joined by pure fruit. Wonderful intense finish.
Like Vatan, singular and not everyone’s taste.

A Chenin unicorn that flys off any wine list it finds itself on. In this case, 86d out of only 6 bottles received by Per Se. The nose is what is most captivating. So unique. It’s a bit less reductive and perhaps more exotic than the Noels de Montbenault of the same vintage. It’s layered with flavors of ginger, Leflaive-like sesame, dried apricots, sour apple and salted hazelnuts. There is good richness and a wild texture that’s balanced by fine acidity. A delicious Chenin that I wish there was more of!

2014 vintage. Proof that even so-called "natural wines" can be great...
