Côte-Rôtie Syrah

Aromatically shy and a bit lean. It does not offer particular amplitude in the aromas of some and broken stones. Firm and fine in texture.

Traditional, good balance of fruit an sinew, vintage imprint is strong. Baked cherry/black plum, perhaps a cassis note in there, hint of prune. Beefy, meaty, leather, late breaking granite, iron and smoke, animal. The clarity lacking, but its muddled and rustic side really gives a traditional feel to it. Day 2 allowed more licorice, herbs, pepper. Tannins have some clunkiness, but meld well with the rocky finish.

Medium rubywith pronounced aromas of black cherry, plum, blackberry, licorice, smoke, cooked plum, earth, meat. Lovely, complex wine just beginning to show some age. Good acidity - would be a great match for lamb or duck Biodynamic.

Pepper, dark fruit and wild flower.

Aromas of smoked meat and flowers precede a red and blue berry salad. A sip is dense but not thick, somehow simultaneously wiry and generous with a mineral vein that goes on for miles.

Ripe dark cherry fruit, moving towards slightly dried, smoky/spicy 4EG character, woodsmoke, smoked meat, sanguine, peppercorn, roasted herbs, salt and granite. Mod body, firm and chiseled despite the vintage warmth, lovely and traditional Côte Rôtie.

Needs time but already pretty damn wise. It’s the first year grad student already in tweed with a pipe. Sexy and old and young all at once. Oh and also you two are picking blackberries illegally on campus at midnight.

2009 vintage. Great fruit on the nose - mulberry, cranberry, stewed cherries. Very youthful, bar a tad of tan leather. Cinnamon and smoke, white pepper. On the palate, dry but with a slight sweet after taste from the primary fruit. Medium plus acidity. Medium plus body and finish. Medium tannin - integrated. Lovely wine with food but don't open for another 5+ years.

Good expressive nose, very fresh despite a low acidity that seems high. Very pleasant
