The apalta vineyard is a beautiful site. This wine is a brawler though; spicy, toasty oak still at the fore. Structure is lovely but the oak is very prominent.

On the nose, beautiful, perfume florals of, fresh & dry, dark red florals, lavender, violets, black licorice, sweet tarry notes, dark currants, cassis, plums, huckleberries, mulberries, blackberries, creamy black raspberries , black licorice, vanilla like I haven’t had on a nose, dark moist soil and blue fruit cobbler.

The body is round & full. The palate is flat out gorgeously elegant. Ripe, ruby fruits of; dark currants, cassis, plums, huckleberries, mulberries, blackberries, creamy black raspberries that are like liquid candy. Black licorice, sweet tarry notes, tobacco, used leather, dark moist black soils, dusty tannins loamy dry soil & clay, softened, slightly gritty dark minerals, spice, black pepper, perfume florals of, fresh & dry, dark red florals, lavender, violets, round beautiful acidity, length, structure and relaxed tension and an elegant, round, ruby, ripe finish that goes on and on. Amazing Syrah from Colchagua. Delectable has it incorrectly as Rapel Valley.

Photos of; the La Mision cellar, the vineyard this wine was is grown, the restaurant and wine service staff.

If you have been ignoring or underestimating Chilean wines, this one is proof you shouldn’t. One of the better Syrah’s I’ve had, regardless of region. @La Mision

Not very good. Some Syrah nose and flavor, but mostly acid.

Just one of those highlight wines. Seventeen year old Syrah that still packs a punch. Deep notes of blackberry, fig, licorice and tobacco. Powerful with an elegantly refined mid pallet and a savory finish. The kind of wine you need to finish off the night.

I don’t know enough about Chile wine, but this bottle makes it clear I need to learn a lot more.

Beautiful Syrah with layers of dark fruit and spices. Good streak of acidity that keeps this wine in check. Hints of smoke on the finish. Made by John Duval, previously of Penfolds.
