Tawny color with a meaty nose. Notes of black cherries, bing cherries, forest floor, herbs, smoked meat and moist dark earth. Nice fruit in the mouth. Good balance. Decent drink.

This wine delivers the goods, and is why I love burgundy. Deep red, smoky notes of earth and cherries, all with a wonderful acidity that is mouthwatering.

Night and day difference in showing from this bottle in March. In hindsight, I think the last one may have had travel shock. Tonight, 2013 CSJ coming from 100+ year old vines is superb after a lengthy slow ox, soaring from the glass with crazy aromatic intensity showing a delicate oak framed red and blue fruited profile with winter citrus, cocoa bean and red roses. The palate shows Grand Cru depth, stunning elegance and purity with fine grained tannins and a penetrating salty mineral laced finale that goes on and on. It’s still young, but 13’s from the big dogs are really starting to shine. Hold the reductive 12’s and tannic 14’s and pop the elegant 13’s.

Spice & florals welcome you. In the mouth it leans to the darker spectrum of fruit that is held in check by damp earth, minerals and buffering acid . Probably the wine with the most upside that night based on what I perceived as a muscular structure that allowed only hints of the future .

Indeed early on in what will be a very long life, but oh so giving even at this stage. It is clear Fourrier, with absolute Grand Cru weight, density and intensity. Red and blue fruit, hints of winter citrus, a fine mineral infusion and fresh violets. There is exceptional delineation, finesse and seductive texture and the finish is supremely long with great precision and fine tannins. Surely many more fantastic years ahead but a joy to try at this stage and to find on the illustrious Per Se wine list.

Tart candied cherry fruit, raspberry, spice and clove. Was really good and initially showed some of the herbal taste associated with 2004, but shed the greeness and developed beautifully.

Nice color, dark ruby and mostly opaque. Bright black cherry and rhubarb nose. Also notes of brown spices and some moist dark soil. Big masculine structure in the mouth. Puckering. Long powerful finish. Great wine but still mostly primary. Needs more age to gain complexity and soften up a bit.

Usually underwhelmed with red burgundy but this wine hit me tonight. Really love how supple the mouthfeel is right now. Beautiful red fruits and... no brett!
