2021 | Chardonnay
Kumeu River; Hunting Hill Vineyard
Auckland; Kumeu, New Zealand
(92-94; Drink 2025-35)

Fantastic, Puligny-esque nose.

24H Update: Flint, faint toasty oak, dried lemon pith, dehydrated white peaches; Salted tangerine, dried lemon, candied pineapple, lime zest. Wow, very good.

Loved this. Classy wine, its harmony and grace coupled with crystal lear fruit make for an awesome drop. Texturally engaging, wonderfully perfumed, cleary earns its benchmark status

Super impressed by this. Toasted oak, ripe apple and pear, citrus peel, hint of tropical, the nose is exactly like a white burgundy. Beautiful mouthfeel, the acidity and richness/roundness integrate so well that I couldn’t even describe. This $40 New Zealand Chardonnay can easily crush some $80 or more Puligny/Chassagne Montrachet premier crus. Strongly recommend!

This is fantastic. Ten years old yet still tastes incredibly fresh, with apple and citrus aromas, smoky, with a slight nuttiness hinting at its maturity. Very good example of how New Zealand Chardonnay can age, and still plenty of life left #screwcap

Delicious. Label says it will improve with 4-6 years, but it's outperforming: 10 years and still peaking. @kumeuriver

Such a pure and minerally Chard. Flinty, lemon curd, and lemon peel with a finish that goes on and on
