Perfectly contained and within itself. Ridge makes a lot of wines that, despite the Zinfandel, seems like they were made in Europe in the 70s. Which I count as a good thing. This wine was closed at first, but air is coaxing out gorgeous scent of black cherry and black raspberry, with summer-sun-warmed gravel. Very elegant in style, with the 40-something percent of Carignane lifting and tightening up the Zin. Just about a perfect accompaniment for my Portuguese chicken, rice, and chourico. This wine will age well for several more years.

Zero percent new oak in this vintage. Outstanding balance and vibrancy.

Whoa what what? Hold the phone. Gosh. This was the best wine from the spring ridge vineyards shipment. Ripe raspberry, forest floor, subtle spice, pencil lead. The tannins aren’t the stick-to-your-teeth type, but definitely present. It’s amazing their ability to get such lively acidity out of Zinfandel, though I’m sure the Carignan helps. Slight new oak influence on the finish, but much less so than other wines from this producer. Gorgeous.

Part of the Advanced Tasting Program from Ridge. Excellent Zinfandel blend. This vintage consists of 72% Zinfandel, 22% carignane, 6% Petite Sirah. Fruit forward but well balanced, slight acidity on the back end. This wine pairs nicely with salted meats & cheese. Drink now or hold for a few years.

Inky black red color with complex, exuberant mixed black and red fruit, leather, violets and a hint of eucalyptus aromas. On the palate it's medium-bodied, focused, persistent and oh so fresh with seamless, well-integrated tannins, and a silky texture with black cherry, blackberry, with hints of black raspberry, and red plum flavors. Long finish. The 2006 vintage is singing right now!

At under 14% and with the perfect balance between wild fruit and mature savor, this is the kind of wine that makes me proud to be Californian. Wine growers of the golden state- may we have some more like this?

Blue fruit dominant leading into raspberries. Nice baking spices, rich minerals and earth. First check on the 07. Nice bottle evolution with another 5 years or so.
