Dark ruby in color with medium intensity and a wide red rim.

Nose of cherries, raspberries, currants, earth, wood, licorice, peppercorn, spices, green vegetables, chocolates, tobacco, herbs and bell pepper.

Medium bodied with high acidity and nice legs.

Dry on the palate with raspberries, strawberries, earth, leather, bell pepper, oak, vanilla, licorice, tar, bitter vegetables, black tea, forest floor, tobacco and peppercorn.

Medium finish with angular tannins and tart pomegranates.

This 7 year old Chianti, is a nice food wine, but not one to have by itself. Unbalanced and harsh. Simple, spicy and earthy with a tart ending.

Needs an hour to open up properly, and might be better in 3 years.

12.5% alcohol by volume.

On the 11th day of Christmas 🎄 The Wine Gallery sent to me, a bottle of Toscolo 2016 Chianti from Tuscany in Italy 🍷

If you saw my video this morning, then you’ll know as soon as I opened door number 11 on my advent calendar and saw this, I was destined to have a tomato based pasta. There ms no ‘diet’ in ‘December’ right 😉

Sangiovese is a red wine grape that’s made to match tomato based dishes wonderfully 😋

Fun fact: The winemaking duo behind this Italian label are originally from New Zealand and Rhode Island, they fell in love with Tuscany on their honeymoon 🥰

In the glass it’s a velvet burgundy red. The nose has hints of bay leaves, juicy black cherry jam and earthy savouriness. While in the mouth it’s full of cranberry acidity yet it’s deliciously smooth and super delectable with a juicy finish. I really enjoyed this one and it was the perfect match to our tomato & garlic veal tortellini with fresh oregano and Parmesan 🧀

All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy! #gifted #opinionsaremyown

Paid a little too much for this. A bit underwhelming. Even a bit more oak than I prefer.... rare for Chianti.

Easy to drink, very smooth, light. Pairs well with Italian food.
