This Coriole 2017 Sangiovese Shiraz from McLaren Vale, South Australia was the other mystery ‘Mediterranean Red’ in my Wine Selectors Customised Plan sample box.
If you love Sangiovese, then you must check out Coriole who have been producing Sangiovese in the McLaren Vale region since 1985. It weighs in at 14.5% abv, so it’s definitely not a shy red wine, however it’s safe to say at RRP $20 – it’s light on the wallet!
Being an Italian grape variety, this one had me craving pizza. A tomato based pizza would be a perfect match or a tomato-based bowl full of pasta would do equally well. Yum, who’s hungry now? I sure am!
Anyway, back to the wine. We really enjoyed this one, here are my notes on it:
I found it a dark black cherry red colour in the glass. On the nose it’s rather forest-y with sweet dried plums and a hint of saltiness. While in the mouth it’s full of anise infused plums, sweet mint and ultra smooth tannins. It’s one of those wines which has the perfect balance, it’s harmonious.
