The 2016 Palmer is a brilliant wine from Thomas Duroux, though I feel it will ultimately be surpassed by the 2018. You cannot argue with the nose: intense black cherries and raspberry fruit, crushed violets and crème de cassis (as if there was a touch of Pauillac in there). The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy, sensual tannins, perfect acidity, velvet smooth with layers of chocolate-tinged black fruit, hints of black pepper and cedar towards the sustained finish. It is a fabulous Palmer that will give much pleasure. Tasted at the Palmer vertical at the château. (Neal Martin, Vinous, August 2023)

The 2005 Palmer, picked from September 9 to October 10, remains deep in color. It has a lovely, intense bouquet with blackcurrant pastilles, raspberry, violet and juniper. It blossoms in the glass, gaining vigor. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, structured and dense, strangely Pomerol-like in style, with touches of black pepper and truffle furnishing the finish. Robust and muscular, it lacks a bit of flair and precision (like many wines of this vintage). I would afford this another couple of years in the cellar. Tasted at the Palmer vertical at the château. The 1970 Palmer is a vintage that I have tasted on several occasions, although recently, I have encountered some variation, including a rather rum example in 2015. The most recent example has an attractive tobacco-infused nose, perhaps more akin to a Saint-Julien than a Margaux. The palate is medium-bodied with a firm backbone, a slight dryness around the edges and fine salinity with lightly-spiced cedar and tobacco notes on the finish. This is a solid 1970 Margaux, though I would not keep it long-term. (Neal Martin, Vinous, August 2023)

Lower level bottle but still alive and kicking . So elegant and refined with dried red flowers , mulberry , graphite , liquid minerals , burnt sugar blood orange . The palate is elegant yet powerful with tons of dry extract and a little tannins still. I imagine a perfect bottle would be truly incredible but this bottle was pretty darn good .

Tasted blind. From magnum. Deep dark tawny color, opaque. Notes of cherry cola, earth, black fruit, gravel/stone, red cherries. Seems old, lacking tannin or acidity. My guess was an old Graves bottle from the 30s. This was fun to follow over the evening as it really blossomed in hours 7-9.

For the holidays we had the pleasure of having the 2008 Château Palmer. A Left Bank Bordeaux from Margaux and a blend of of 51% Merlot, 41% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Petit Verdot. A beautiful bottle of Bordeaux, drinking well right now with many years ahead of it.

On the nose there is black cherry, bkackberry, black currant, licorice, spice, cedar and earth.

On the palate there are notes of black cherry, blackberry, plum, black currant, mocha, licorice, spice, graphite and earth.

This wine is full bodied with a beautiful smooth supple mouthfeel medium + acidity and medium + chewy tannins that leaves you with a long black fruit woodsy finish. What a wonderful bottle a great way to begin the holidays. I hope everyone has had a great holiday. Continued joy and happiness into this coming new year. Please, continued good health and stay safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

Dark and intense plummy fruit. Violets and roses. Gloriously silky with great purity

At age 22, Palmer 2000 is finally in a great spot and unquestionably accessible, really popping after an hour in the decanter. It has an explosive nose showing layers of intense blackberry fruit, mocha, cigar box and a kiss of cedar and soil tones. The palate, while still showing some ripe tannins, is velvety and seductive with tremendous depth, balanced acids and massive length. Many fabulous years ahead for this beauty.

Day 2 of WineBoyz Wineapalooza. Tasted blind. Dark reddish amber color. Translucent with clear rims. Nice weight. Seems really old. Notes of cola, rhubarb, cranberries, cigar box. Guessed Merlot-based Bordeaux from the 20s/30s. This faded as the day went on. We've had better versions of this, but it was still great to check in on it one more time. Especially with other 61s in the lineup.
