Not as feral & gamey as the ‘16s in my memory, but still vibrant old school Chianti: nose of cracked leather, cassis, & ripe black cherries; loads of underbrush, kirsch, beets, black cherries on palate. Quite svelte in body, perhaps leaner than past vintages. One of my go to Chianti producers year in year out.

Last bottle of 6, last vintage before replant. Deep, structured, at maturity and drinking great. Soaked cherries, dried cherry, clove, asphalt, leather, porcini, fennel seed, underbrush, dust. VA and brett in check here, last two were through the roof! Tannins still assertive, fine and postured.

Decant of some time necessary to bring it all together. Was a hit w me but not my drinking partner: old school tobacco, dried cherries, fine tannins; medium bodied. Lets say a food wine given its acidity, though that balances out w decant. He thought shrill and musty but did improve w air. Polaner imports.

Earthy sangio with plenty of that dusty/leathery character. Funk and gamey animal notes mix with dried sour cherries, hoisin, salumi mold, dried violets, Mexican cinnamon. Palate shows some integration and theres these great gritty tannins that linger about.
