Alte Reben Spätburgunder

Still young and takes a bit to open up... now getting black cherry, forest floor, ash, and lavender. Highish acid. In terms of body in the Spatburgunder realm, this is quite Amazonian. Not a meek wine by any standards, but still poised and elegant.

Took 2 hours for this to open up but now it's rockin'

Raise a glass we list Bernhard this year. One of the best Pinot noir producers in the world just happened to be German from Baden. Wonderful distinct earth on the nose black spices and smoke raspberry and cherry fruit. Concentrated and rich vvety texture wow very fresh with lots of spice on the finish. Most excellent!!

All eucalyptus on this nose - stemy and vegetal. The greenness continues into the mouth with a pop of plum. Maybe hang onto for another 3-4 years to see how the stem component disappears?

Nice red fruit and acidity.

I know this producer personally and like him very much. His wines are thoughtful and intelligent . He loves perfect pairings. Quality German Pinot Noir.

Strangely reductive yet a touch oxi. Not the best bottle condition I feel.

Enjoyed this Spätburgunder. Linear and focused on open to warm and inviting by day 4. A ride I'm open to taking again...

Spatburgunder is often just austere Pinot Noir. But this is austere Pinot Noir that actually tastes like something.
