Ruby with red fruit aromas and spicy herb floral notes, aged for 14 months in 35% new French oak. On the palate black raspberry and cherry flavors with herb tea and earthy tones. Firm grainy tannins, balanced acidity, nice mouthfeel, pleasant finish ending with earthy mineral character. Nice!

Nov 25th, 2018Beautiful central coast Pinot with plenty of life left. Tannins are almost completely integrated by now, but acidity is still keeping this wine rather fresh. Cherry and strawberry with notes of cola, baking spice, pepper, and a stemmy quality. Will sit on my other bottle for awhile.

This Santa Maria Valley Pinot Noir, from the Dierberg Vineyard in northern Santa Barbara County, is medium-dark in the glass. It brings aromas of earthy raspberry and black cherry, with coffee grounds and a heavy mineral angle. On the palate, it has a boatload of acidity and tannins, with dark berry flavors and hints of black tea. It's a huge Pinot, probably a bit brawnier than my taste likes, but still has an elegant side. It is unapologetic in its California-ness, even from a cool-climate region like the SMV.

The "Dierberg Dierberg" (like the Pisoni Pisoni) as it is is the estate's own vs. what is almost certainly lesser fruit sold to other vineyards who bottle single vineyards under Dierberg name. I buy this by the case as a house Pinot. Fruit forward style, almost better after being open a day.

Wholly crap was this a nice pour. Most definitely decant into a carafe and give it a few. It is a little hot at first, so give it some thing to cut through like some cheese.
