Of course I bought this bottle because I am a chateauneuf du pape slave. But Cockork! I like the label, I like the cork, I like the varietals. I’m a Cali girl with a heart for rhone wine.
Let’s start with the good: the nose. Omg. Seriously dirty, earthy and a hint of cinnamon and spice. Screams rhone. The first palatial flavors suggest soft baking spices and strawberry. The finish has pleasant acid.
Now the bad/ugly: that’s where it stops. The palate goes flat. Void of body, complexity and everything else châteauneuf du pape!
Is it an ok wine? Yes. Would it be appropriate at $18 or less? Yes. But not at $25 plus that I paid. Sorry, just slightly overpriced for underdelivery, but I’m still going to drink it because it is a decently made wine.

My buddy Ian brand coming correct. Sf chronicle wine maker of the year a few years back. Making a good name for our place Monterey. Listen to the bedrock podcast with Ian! It’s a good listen and the wine is super thoughtful. I can say im super thankful he and heather are keeping this going! Thank you heather brand for pouring and being the great host! Always gracious and kind. Ian and heather are bringing Monterey back up where it should be with the likes of Mark Chesebro (arroyo seco), tira nanza, russel Joyce and a few others. Big ups @Lee Lightfoot for letting me join you and Julie today. No doubt Carmel valley is on the rise again. Worth a visit! Contact me for appointments before summer

P'tit Pape vertical. The 2011 is what sold me on Ian Brand wines. Great spice and earth flavors. 2012 followed suit with a bit more concentrated fruit and meat smoke. 2013 started to show the drought and was the last to be finished out of the three, also needs some time to shake off the wood. I yelled at the Mr. Brand from across the street once, I enjoy his wines.

Great GSM for the price! Kalamata Olives on the nose, super aromatic Syrah, the Grenache comes through really nicely. Loving this more day by day!

Great value, took some time to open up but showed great balance and delicate texture.
