#AgedWineTuesday

Dark ruby in color with a reddish rim.

Full bodied with high acidity to balance the sugars.

Sweet on the palate with nice complexity.

Showing blackberries, black currants, cooked raisins, cedar, spices, vanilla, licorice, chocolates, tobacco, mocha, light earth and herbs.

Long finish with cherries.

This is a gorgeous sweet wine from Portugal. Rich with great balance and a soft mouthfeel.

The 1994 vintage was an exceptional vintage, so I was very excited to try it when I saw it on the wine list.

Smells very young, although it smelled a little oxidized right out of the bottle, which went away after 20 minutes of airtime.

Drinking beautifully now, and will continue to age nicely in the next 20 years.

Good by itself or with food. I paired it with a Fourme d'Ambert blue cheese. So nicely paired, tasty and decadent.

A great experience to try these kind of wines from special vintages.

20% alcohol by volume.

95 points.

$85.

Delicious now - this is lighter than some vintage Dow, but it is very well balanced with medium sweetness, fine acidity and juicy blackberry, black cherry, cassis and bramble fruit. Leather, licorice, candied cherry and dried plums are already appearing. The wine has a good balance of acidity and fruit flavor and never seems hot on the long finish. Lovely for enjoying now.

Deep Ruby with pronounced aromas of berry fruits, spice and floral notes, a blend of 42% Touriga Nacional, 38% Touriga Franca, 8% Alicante Bouschet and miscellaneous others. On the palate flavors of plum, licorice and blackberry flavors, well balanced with lively acidity, full-bodied, big and well structured. Long finish, smooth tannins ending with cacao and rich sweet fruit tones. Very nice!

Deep Ruby with aromas of berry fruit and spice, aged for 2 years in oak. On the palate plum, raisin and black cherry flavors, well balanced with vivid acidity, a very big port, still has a fresh taste. Long finish, good tannin backbone ending with cacao and rich sweet fruit tones.

Clove, fig, dried red fruit and nutmeg. Was great after a long decant and expanded over weekend. Port is right for a homebound winter.

Commemorating a hopeful day with a wine of my approximate age, thanks to the generosity of some very good friends, the Slatterys. (Taking the cork out without a Durand was like battlefield surgery.) Still alive and kicking. Color is quite tawny at this point, but it’s so fragrant. Some rich fruit and loads of tertiary notes of mahogany and nutty notes. Not super sweet. Elegant and soft texture. Alcohol integrated beautifully. Long.
