Popped and poured. “Oh, hello friend!” This is what Sancerre is supposed to smell/taste like. Herbs and star fruit. Pyrazines are not prominent (long hang time has something to do with that). On the palate, the wine is dry and has simply wonderful acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and unbelievably chalky. This is a baby with a very bright life ahead. What a treat to get an early glimpse of the brilliance to come. Unfortunately, it’s getting harder and harder to find Sancerre like this. Drink now if you have multiples and you can appreciate the potential. Better after 2027.

Very tart, fresh, light but filled with energy. Citrus and stone, pond lilly. Need to let this warm up a bit more than standard Sancerre. Becomes honeyed, then shows muskmelon. Takes a while to show its colors; time will be kind to this I think.

The 2020 Sancerre La Grande Côte is a fine wine with a piercing nose of floral and flint. While it may be dry, it offers a sensation of sweet fruit and high alcohol (14.5%), which Cotat compares to the ripe 2009 and 1990 vintages. Being late-picked and on a south slope, these grapes get ripe, and in this vintage, I can't help but think that the balance has been slightly knocked by this ripeness. That said, it offers delectable texture and sinew and remains an impressive wine. Tasting the 2009 Cul de Beaujeu soon after, high alcohol (15%) remains evident with bottle age. Holy cow, what a home run! This my friends its the taste of terroir. Dense and muscular, with a focused minerality that is keeping the beat.
Despite its youth it is very expressive and not holding back on its complexity. François Cotat La Grande Côte, a marvelous piece and an act in the magic of wine.
Pronounced intense aromas with a layered depth Lemon juice, kiwi, boxwood, dandelions almost reaching towards honey with a prominent Limestone mineraliy that is keeping the beat.
High piercing acidiy that cuts through the smooth and ripe edges. Dense and athletic on the mid palate with a layered complexity, salty backbone as it expands before closing up in a long tightening finish.

What a nose, yellow plum, melon, apricot pith, apricot skins, kumqwat, gooseberry, tropical hints, superb acidity, huge power, depth and concentration. The structure is grand cru and so imposing. Huge acids now with air. Lemons and mineral. Burgundian wet earth, gorgeous. Fine grained, fleshy, dry, complex.

Smokin 🔥 Unctuous, dripping with ripe yellow fruits; ultra ripe honeydew, quince, yellow plum, meyer lemon, poached quince, Asian pear, fines herbs, talcum, taffy, verbena, limestone, wildflower honey. Generous upfront palate, round weighty and full of depth. Gorgeous length, really brings class and finesse to this bottling.
