An unusual wine. On first nose it smells strongly of damp cardboard that has sat festering for a few days. There are slight hints of the waxed paper wrappers from a good Brie. The first taste brings tannins and soft cheese with tobacco and raisins. It is very light bodied for a Bordeaux.

This wine needs lots of air and should probably be decanted. Swirling it in the glass for a few minutes softens the flavours and brings a sweetness and acidity to the wine. The undertone of cheese still remains and the flavour is pleasant

I can't believe it's not butter (buttery Merlot, that is). Being 60% Merlot, we assumed this wine would be full-bodied and chewy. But, it's pleasantly smooth and medium-bodied. With just enough spice notes to make you smile. Highly drinkable. It goes down smooth.

Needed more air to soften rather than uncorking and getting straight in to. Mild tobacco and sesame roasted notes. Too dry for my taste, prefer more fruit.

A calais special. Not as good as expected however at £6 a bottle on the continent who is complaining.

after a night on the counter opened up nicely. Elegant, tart. Great with a hearty steak.
