Leflaive x Grolleau. Super interesting. Unlike any Grolleau I've ever had. Not grape-ey or beaujolais-like, but firm, tannic, and (most likely) age-worthy. It's probably not worth $50 retail but is the best and most shining example of its kind. #decantthis #leflaive

Anne Claude Leflaive’s Loire project. Wasn’t sure what to expect but this Grolleau had a lot more structure and grippy tannins than I would have expected and I should have given it plenty of air before drinking. Dark fruit with a bit of spice on the finish. Built for the long haul which I would not have expected.

Dusty earth, gravel, green pepper on the nose.
Dark saline fruit on the palate with notes of peat and leather.

My first Grolleau, I think. Hearty, rustic, balanced and persistent. Excellent stuff. No surprise given the producer.

Biodynamic Loire project of Anne-Claude Leflaive since 2008. Nice structure, evolved, a bit tannic. 60 to 90 year old vines. Serious Grolleau! But why is the name of Leflaive already used on the label of this 2005 wine?

Unlike any grolleau. Almost Malbec in color. Thanks Anne Claude!
