Mar 22nd, 2020Taut and full of energetic tension - exactly the opposite of the usual flabby, off dry M-T. Flinty green apples with a touch of grass & nettle. Bone dry with a salty touch. Very nice.

I had read a lot about how Muller-Thurgau usually sucks but I’d never tried one. The grape is kind of Germany’s bastard stepchild, known for flabby wines with low acidity. Stahl is one of a few modern producers making M-T at very low yields with serious dedication. This wine is dry, with perhaps a touch of RS, pale yellow with intense peach, ripe apple and pear, a touch of pineapple and a few herbaceous notes. Some chalk and higher than expected acid (though still low). Lemon and lime on the palate too. Not my favorite but a very tasty mid week wine, especially for the price.
