Valle d'Aosta Mayolet

The exuberance of Beaujolais, the electric tang of Italy, and the ferrous undertow of Valle d'Aosta. Also, definitely what I'm taking to Thanksgiving.

Funk, blood orange, tangy acidity, black pepper, medium light overall

Mayolet 2012. Cran-cherried, nice extraction. Prickly well-integrated acidity

Mid ruby, meaty, musk rose, little oak, dry, gentle tannin, good acidity, bitter cherry, lots of flavour - a fine mountain wine!

Mayolet, by itself, is a cousin of fumin: very dark when poured, but very light. The sad part, though, is that there is very little Mayolet.

New grape for me! Like a Cabernet franc meets Nebbiolo imo

Like the others reviewing this wine, the first mouth feel was tangy acidity, followed by sour cherry and a bit of stony earth, followed by faint notes of violets. I used to think that fumin produced the best wines from this region, but I may have to change my mind.
