This is probably the most tannic wine i have ever had. Even the most tannic Barolo I've had wasn't this grippy. If you put this wine in your cheeks the drying sensation within your mouth is almost unbelievable.
This is a dark purple/ruby red wine with some signs of age.
Nose: Big black fruit. Really concentrated deep blackberry and cherry. Black currants and leather also are present. Theres a sweaty kind of funky element also. Kind of like an armpit hah. Some barnyard types of earth coming through. Clearly oak aging has occurred here also. The nose is quite spicy on the back end.
Palate: Black cherry, raspberry and cranberry on the palate with currants, very ripe to over ripe. Some earthy qualities also, on the palate, leather and licorice also linger. The finish is cedary and spicy. Peppery finish. Fun wine.

Medicinal nose. Hard candy. Red berry. Hot prosciutto stone. French new oak. Acid doesn't over power. $39

A moderately decent montefalco wine with serious tannic structure and deep rich black fruit.

Sagrantino di Montefalco is one of my favorites and this big tannic gem did not disappoint. Very interesting history around this grape, indigenous to Umbria, that nearly went extinct.
