El Puntido is an old word meaning ‘staircase landing’, similar to the shape that these lands form between the Sierra de Cantabria and the Ebro River depression. Deep Ruby with aromas of fruit, floral, oak & pepper spice. On palate ripe plum and blackberry flavors, complex with layers of fruit & spice, espresso, cacao & licorice. Tannins are elegant, well balanced, long finish ending with fruit, spice and oak. Very nice !

Deep Ruby with aromas of rich dark berry fruits and smoky oak notes. On the palate flavors of ripe blackberry and plum with notes of charred wood, espresso and tobacco. Fine firm drying tannins, long finish ending with toasty oak and spice. Has long aging potential.

Tasted 9/28/17 at Total Wine Tasting. Tasting pour.

Nose of smoke, wood, and some black cherry. Red and black cassis on the palate mingle with oak and some graphite. Moderate tannins, long finish.

3/22/8/5/4 + 50 = 92 pts.

Huge spice and cherry notes - peppery backbone. Can hold up a few more years but well integrated. A hot wine that drinks more like a southern Rhone.

I don't like Rioja. I very much like this Rioja. Ribera del Duero 2005.
