The 21’s here are masterful. Nose of late season black cherries, late season red cherries, earth, mineral and more. Blueberry and blackberry as well. So deep and expressive. That’s 21! Palate is teeming with energy and juiciness. Sour and red cherries and glorious silky tannins and lovely sweetness. Long and flowy. Needs time but just spectacular. So much finesse now and the fruit is all red now.

Jan 2nd, 2023Needed something a bit more predictable after that Overnoy. Step right up JJ Girard. Maddeningly consistent. Love this version of a great 1er Cru. Global warming is helping Beaune 1er Crus.
Nose is tight but has lovely spice, dark flowers and black cherries. This is such a serious 1er Cru. Wispy sour cherry, herbs. Super complex and opening by the minute. Fruit filling in big time. Sour cherry, dark cherries, early season cherries. Brambly now. So pretty and deep. Perfect hint of framing oak. Girard is so good. Palate is just gorgeous. Young but awesome. Showing some wood but huge sap, density and really fresh. Girard is always invigorating. Good concentration and really black fruited palate. Black cherries and they are so clear. Long palate staining finish. Persistent. So juicy and with such a serious structure. Plus that just maddeningly consistently delicious Girard fruit.

Terrific vintage for this wine. Nose of deep cherries. Mid season, black and sour. A real melange. Amazing clarity and shape to the nose. So dazzling in its vividness and compactness. Amazing minerality. Just so pointed and refined. A sense of refinement you don’t see often in Girard wines or this Cru. Awesome texture and juiciness. Black cherry, such purity, balance and compactness. Ripe and deep tannins and just perfect fruit. Like perfect ripeness and backed up by great energy and minerality. This is very impressive. There is great sap and such vivid black cherry fruit. Will age for a decade at least. So long. Compact. Masterful.

Then cherry, cherry flower, deep spice, thick cherry flesh, so upfront and high toned but with a deep mineral background that sets Clos du Roi apart. It’s so serious. Palate is generously fruited and intensely structured but also very supple for this cuvee. Ripe and juicy tannins and terrific Giratd purity, freshness and accessibility. Mixture of dark fruits and lighter cherry fruits but also has a sinewy, earthy quality. Terrific balance. Always so impressive. With air gains body and sap. Terrific.

Jul 16th, 2020Nose starts out a bit funky, but the horsiness blows off and you have cooling sour cherry, soil tones, mineral, moss, good aroma but it needs to open. Palate is gorgeous. Elegant, textured and so fine. Super juicy and clean, stunningly pure. Long. Lovely elegant structure. Good depth and lovey sappy fruit. Clean as a whistle and impressively pure.

Palate is so juicy with a classic earthy sweetness and loads of red berry fruit and some mid season cherry. Velvety tannins and such purity and grace. So so complex and mineral. Amazing mouthfeel and such energy and precision. Wonderful depth and incredible balance. Special. So long. Really just utterly delicious.

Palate is dense and sweet with lovely wet earthy and terrific acidity. Such a clean wine and great 1er Cru. Has the structure for 10-15 years of improvement. Terrific. Sweet fruit and tannins. Sour cherries on the finish. Complex.
