Knockout old school Syrah from the northern Rhône. Funky as hell even after two hours in the decanter but after that began to open up very nicely indeed. Was at its best on the second night.

Violets, white pepper, plums blackberries and raspberries, with a slight hint of leather. Fresh, accessible, reasonable length, elegant.

Rusty color notes coming through a slightly hazy appearance; jaw-dropping savory nose that oozes dark and dried fruits, pepper, raw meat and blood, and liquorice; taste confirms the nose and adds a nice firm structure of medium-high acids, a low-moderate alcohol level, smooth tannins, and a long peppery finish. 25 year-old hillside vines, one-third new oak and long aging on lees. Love it!

At a really nice spot, nice iron, mineral notes. Dirty Syrah in a good way.

Expected more from this Saint Joseph. Strong Syrah body but perhaps over oaked.

Excellent example of a St Jo. On opening, the nose was much more lilac and herbs. Black olives and red fruit in the mouth. After 3 hours in a decanter, big change. On the nose, bacon fat and olives. Bacon and iron in the mouth. Long finish. I would recommend *not* decanting or waiting 3-5 years. The in between made for some awkwardness.

Absolutely classic Northern Rhône Syrah. On the nose, brambly, peppery red fruit and some dried violets. In the mouth, bright acidity, good fruit, more black pepper, solid mid-palate and some grippy tannins. Long finish. At 25 dollars I wish I had bought a case. Could easily age 10 years plus.
