Enough age to bring the fruit intensity down a notch, & man that’s some good fruit- emphasis on the cassis & blackberries. Usually not a mega fan of Bordeaux, but this fit the bill for a shared bottle with friends, drink outside on the banks of the Hudson.

Brick /rust in color with a wide brick rim.

On the nose cherries, strawberries, earth, spices, wet leaves, herbs and black pepper.

Medium bodied with medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate with plums, cherries, vegetables, light oak, sweet vanilla, spices, wet leaves, herbs and earth.

Short finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This 52 year old is still drinkable, which was a great surprise. This is always interesting to try.

Definitely over the hill by now, but enjoyable and easy drinking. Tangy and interesting.

Lighter than I expected it to be, as it drinks like a Pinot Noir at this point.

The cork crumbled, even with the durand, and I had to decant it. It lasted for less than an hour. What a nice experience.

I paired it with Chateaubriand and grilled asparagus.

12% alcohol by volume.

84 points.

2017 vintage. Ancient estate dating back to the 16th century and owned by the Robert family since 1935. Attractive nose with cherry, raspberry, flowers and some smokiness. Medium-bodied and spicy with a solid ripe tannic backbone and good length. Terrific value at 10 euros. Mainly Merlot (85%) with some Cabernet Franc (10%) and Malbec (5%). Abv. 14,2%.

Nose of sour cherry, black currant, tar, a bit of meat juice, some green pepper bell touches and black pepper. The palate is very savory, a good acid drive, yet not very fully felt as it comes with a good width, some cherry and currant touches, a saline, meaty touch, a spherical mid palate that powers up a nice and savory finish with meat juice, cherry and currant and that tiny salty touch. About 10 eur in a (very well sourced) supermarket here in Arès, Gironde. Great stuff and super value
