The perfect wine before a Tool concert. Distinctly intense and so harmonious.

50/50 cab/syrah, new worldy and would definitely not be for the traditionalist, but clearly well made. Lots of fruit/wifey enjoyed it..

Opaque violet color with very appealing baked and fresh dark fruit, smoke, marzipan and violet aromas. On the palate, it's full-bodied, and well structured, with very good acidity, dusty well integrated tannins and a supple texture. It shows ample high-toned red currant, baked blackberry, black raspberry, spice and vanilla flavors with a roast coffee finis. 14.5% alcohol. A blend of Cab and Syrah. The Cab sourced from the Betchart Vineyard, directly across the road from Ridge's world famous Monte Bello vineyard, at 2,200 feet of elevation above Cupertino. The Syrah is from Coastview Vineyard at 2,300 feet in the Gabilan Mountains.

This is just a really really good wine. Outstanding even. Deep dark purple in the glass with a wide brim. Violets and white flower aromas on the nose initially with a ton of powerhouse red and black fruits following closely behind. Dried herbs and smoke accompanying. Smoked tobacco and underbrush. There’s a bit of oak but it’s hiding playfully in the background.

70/30 Cabernet Sauvignon/Syrah from the Santa Cruz Mountains. Definitely a major step above other Cali blends, this has brains and beauty. Big and full bodied. Fun and full of character with silky tannins. The palate is electric with a continuation of those dark fruits along with milk chocolate and more herbs. A long finish with black pepper makes you instantly pour another glass and that’s a bit of a shame because if you show patience, this wine will reward you.

A deep, inky purple in the glass, almost impenetrable. Decanted for an hour and it was necessary for this to truly blossom. The fruit on the nose attacks first but doesn’t last long. The red berries soon give way to a nice bit of smoke and menthol. The warm spices here are just so nice. Some plums begin to emerge little by little and then dried herbs take over. Seriously, it’s so dang pretty.

A blend of 50% Syrah from Monterey County and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon from Santa Ynez County. More full bodied than medium bodied, this is just a delight to drink. In it’s prime drinking window now, there’s an energy here that’s instantly apparent. Bright acidity and liveliness in the glass. The Cabernet takes the lead in this dance but doesn’t overwhelm, while the Syrah accompanies well. Black fruits and spice star on the palate with spice playing the backup role quite nicely. There’s a definite elegance about this wine that I wasn’t quite expecting, but it’s very welcome.

50% Cabernet, 47% Syrah, 3% Viognier, 14.2%

Fantastic, needs 1.5-2 hour decant before waking up.

This bottle of 2015 Gabilan Mountains GSM is a fantastic California Rhône blend from Monterey County. Medium plus bodied with aromas of plumb and black cherry. Definitely will buy it again! Cheers! Salud!
