Last of the recent Girard wines from our club shipment (at least the ones that aren't being cellared for a while!) First time tasting Girard's merlot. I pop-n-poured initially and it was super resistant with weak raspberries on the nose and a bit smokey in the finish. After about 2+ hours decanting, it opened nicely and expressed some cherries and fig. The legs may still be falling from the glass long after I finish...crazy lengthy!

Want to like the fucking merlot, but,.... wicked tannic on day 1. Corked it and on day 3, better; some fruit and depth coming through. Black Licorice is the dominant flavor.

Jeff Meier- Merlot can be hit and miss at times, but I was pleasantly surprised by this tasty offering from Girard. The raspberry and blueberry fruit with coffee-like varietal freshness was supported by good palate weight and density. The flavors were fresh and varietally correct.
