Dark and brooding in the glass. Deep fruit forward nose. Notes of black cherries, earth, and a little menthol. No signs of the fruit being overripe or scorched. Rich and smooth. Doesn’t come across as Cornas but everyone enjoyed this.

Monthly WTF wine group meet up. No true theme this month. Some wines tasted blind.

Tasted blind. Herbal tomato, stewed meat (but very faint), and a burnt rhubarb on the nose. Very resolved and put together. Little white pepper and charred old black cherry on the finish. Didn’t get much iron out of this like I do with northern Rhône...I called it Grenache. Thanks

Quite deep ruby garnet. Takes a bit of time to get going on the nose , then cassis , black plum , dark cherry , a slightly herbal, earthy, black pepper notes . On the palate quite round , with more dark fruits , earthy sous bois , and a spicy herbal touch , menthol finish . Nice balanced acidity and with rounded , ripe tannins with ok length . Drinking perfectly now and will drink well for another 5-8 years

17 at first, I thought the fruit was partly gone. But then the wine expanded. It’s a rustic Cornas, needs venison or something similar. Better second day. M+ length.

Very dry, leather, and ash, with black currant juice. Still young - tannins still grippy, but clearly maturing beautifully.

17. 1999. Animal, sauvage, whatever: the essence of old-style Cornas. Cliches: leather, pepper, etc on nose. Big, lots of fruit, tannins resolved, fine with cheese. Long.
