Machir Bay Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky

I'd still prefer wine after a dry run, but this whiskey sure did hit a spot. The balance and complexity of the Machir Bay is just undeniable, evident from the score achieved here. Fresh, zesty fruits are starkly juxtoposed with pastry-like nutty, creamy vanillin notes. The peat straddles the line between salinity and camp fire smoke. A rockstar finish that just lingers with sweet, malty flavour and a generous sprinkle of salt and pepper. Needs a little air to sort out some initial aggression, but once that settles, I felt nothing was out of place. Best entry-level Islay for me! 2019 bottling here.

Truly fantastic. Delicate yet powerful smoke, with tropical fruit and honey.

Grower scotch. You need it.

2022 Whisky Advent Calendar Day 4: Super complex. Honey, floral notes and vanilla nose. Very light color but deceptively dense body. There is a sweetness and spicy creamy note and cigar box running through the peat and smoke.

An old bottle, so mellowed slightly. Sweet, soft, salty, with a wonderful warm, richness underneath. A pale golden colour. Light peat on the nose, but overpowered by a cherry-sweet medicinal scent with a honeyed base to it. Reminds me of the smell of a sweetsmoke fire in the distance on a cold beach on a grey day. And tobacco - cigar tobacco. And banana! Marvellous!

Nose like Balkan sobrani tobacco. Light color and smooth delivery. A great Islay scotch for new drinkers. Lightly peated.
