Surely young, surely delicious !!
I consider the vernatsch, which we call in Italian Schiava gentile, our petit pinot noir.
This is an established label of an old vines version, a rare example of schiava that does age very well.
This is a wine somehow that if you blind taste it you could mistake for a white, absence of tannin and good freshness. With time it builds up a bit of flesh, but it does remains generally a grape to drink when young. Best examples are in the St. Magdalener denomination.
Still i enjoy this label everytime and also the other schiava Girlan produces.

Lovely aromatics that evolve wit time, starting with with plum & cherry, they blueberry, bitter orange marmelade ending with coffee dregs. There’s a seductive exotic spice in the background, too. On the palate this show nice purity to the juicy fruit, with crisp cherry and red currant, a plush feeling to the light tannins and great balance. This is drinking beautifully right now but will hold easily for the next couple of years. A very nice wine.

Schiava is not supposed to age, but in this case is different. This will age gracefully for a long time✌️️and quite complex too

Had it March 2013.
Transparent ruby and brilliant red. 🍎 red apple, pomegranate, coffee, smoky, bitter orange. Aromatic herbs 🌿, red berries. Spices. Wine that is still young. Still unbalanced on the youth. Years ahead. Long and good 😊

I’m a sucker for good Vernatsch. When it comes in its light, airy, aetheric form.
Dark plums, orange peel, a hint of undergrowth. So clean & spacious. With a pinch of exotic spice.
On the palate this is light yet with the depth of old vines (up to 100y) and the cool minerality of high altitude alpine terroir.
Thank God not many enjoy this style as it’s ridiculously cheap for the quality!
