Have always enjoyed the savoury yet rich Mencia grape from Bierzo in north west Spain. like Descendietes la Jose Palacios Petalos. This was offered at $13.50 a bottle - bought a dozen - should be good as a midweek quaffer. I didn’t mind it but Barb was not a fan. Advertised as full bodied but lacked mid palate oomph. Notes of pepper and red fruits. Does drink more like a $20 to $30 wine but generally nothing to write home about.

Capa media baja y densidad media, ribete violáceo, en nariz frutas rojas, monte bajo y notas lácteas. En boca agradable, ligero , fresco pero corto y sin mucha intensidad, punto ácido.

Deep ruby with sediments. Chewy, prunes, blueberry, sweet salami, stewed spinach.Medium plus acidity, medium sugar, medium plus alcohol. Thought it was a Brunello.

At $20 a bottle, this was an outstanding value. I had the 2005 vintage. Outstanding concentration from those old mencia vines. The 10 years of aging served this wine well, having nicely integrated flavors of black cherry, blackberry, earth, mint, fennel, maybe a hint of green pepper on the finish, which is medium-long.
