My last bottle of 2001. It was in peak form with another 5-7 years ahead.

When you buy upon release, you get that it is a pretty good wine but, young, it is still astringent and earthy. However, when you cellar it for 17 years, it blossoms into soft, creamy, velvety expression of balance and elegance. The best part is, it was $25. I’ve had some expensive wines that were not this enjoyable.

The fruits were beautifully ripe; blackberries, dark cherries, black raspberries and showing nice blue fruits. The evolution softened, the earth and gave it amazing integration. Soft tobacco tones and leather, most clay, top soil, stones, anise, a little dry brush, beautiful, round near perfect acidity and a creamy, lush, round, creamy finish that sings on the palate. Nice pair with our New York Strips. 🥩

Good news: it’s drinking at peak. Bad news: it’s a Brett 💣. Grab some cheese and try to ignore the spritz

Pretty pleased that I pinned this as a merlot dominant 2010 Left Bank Cru Bourgeois, though I guessed La Tour Carnet. A very competently made wine. Lovely, if slightly straight-forward nose of blackcurrent with a touch of soft oak and blackcurrent leaves. Drinking very well right now.

This overachiever was perfect with our chuck roast. A 2004 that has arrived at 13 years old with great texture as well as fresh cassis fruit. Very fine indeed!

Girl computer Cru Bourgeois. You guys. Get into the Cru Bourgeois it doesn’t mean you are bougie (which Merriam-Webster just decided to include in their dictionary so if you don’t know what I mean...look it up), it just means you have high standards and a way with bargains. Consummate old world. It’s all like hi I’m all dark berries and black currant and violets and we’ve been having a party with our buddy tar but hidden in a pencil box because we are supes into graphite. Fuck this ink nonsense we like stones and lead. This wine is badass but it really would like some food too methinks. Earth and cassis. I’d very much like a mushroom pizza on the side.

Steak and claret night was on tonight! Cinnamon cooked up a storm, and the cool curranty fruit of this 14 year old Bordeaux was the perfect companion to the rich, dry aged ribeye.

Great vintage for Malescasse. Very primal and coarse, showing a rough outer shell of earth, coffee and barrel char notes. There’s a nicely concentrated core of dark fruit and licorice that takes time to expose. Tannins are chewy but ripe. This will be great in a few years. Love the power and intensity here. A Bdx drinker’s Bdx.
