Yarra Ranges Estate

Giant Steps

Applejack Vineyard Pinot Noir 2016

Delectable Wine

Deep, glistening ruby-red. Ripe, mineral-accented red and blue fruits, incense, musky earth and candied flowers on the seductively perfumed nose. Sappy and alluringly sweet on the palate, offering juicy cherry, black raspberry, savory herb and vanilla flavors along with an exotic Asian spice nuance. Fine-grained and seamless in texture, delivering round, slowly building tannins and an impressively long finish that leaves kirsch and floral notes behind. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, September 2022)

Adelaide Hills Shiraz 2012

This developed positively from previous tastings here on Delectable. My brief notes - Liquorice; more savoury than fruit driven - Bacon, Charcuterie, spicy notes on the nose and medium weight palate. Some pepper. Very Northern Rhone in style. Certainly built for the long haul. I have 2 left - next in 2024. — 2 months ago

Really nice, surprisingly smooth and definitely not critter wine. WOM 8-22 — 6 days ago

Macedon Ranges Chardonnay 2019

Not shy, this one. An upfront riot of aromas and flavour, with citrus, mandarin, nougat and oak influence with good weight and a luscious texture. — 2 months ago

Hanlin Hill Riesling 2012

A trace of cumquat together with dried white flowers, talc some toast together with citrus. A superb 10 year old Clare Valley Riesling from a quality producer in a good vintage. No TDN Kerosene notes. — 2 months ago

Curly Flat

Pinot Noir 2012

Surprised it’s been over four years since I last tasted this vintage. And hasn’t it developed! Much more towards savoury and charcuterie flavours now, although some dark cherry remains. Slightly drying finish, faintly reminiscent of cocoa. It’s certainly much softer and mature than I recall, moving into its autumnal phase. Drink soon, I’d say. — 18 days ago

Adelaide HIlls Syrah 2013

The 2014 Jimmy Watson winner, and what a ripper it is. Needed a decant and a good splash to open up and reveal all the blue and black berry fruit and spice that made this such an enticing wine in its youth. Elegant, savoury and delicious! — 2 months ago
