Okanagan Valley Pinot Gris 2021

2021 vintage.
94 % Pinot Gris, 4 % Chardonnay and 2 % Muscat.
This was the year of the heat dome in British Columbia. Plus 40 degrees Centigrade in the Okanagan Valley for a week. Not fun.
This wine is pale straw yellow in colour with lovely flavours of white peach, melon and citrus rind.
Light bodied with medium acidity.
We had Albacore Tuna Sashimi, grilled Ling Cod and BBQ Sockeye Salmon bellies (all local and freshly caught) with this wine.

Meerlust

Rubicon Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2015

The wine served tonight is the 2016 Meerlust Rubicon Cabernet Sauvignon Blend. This is from the Meerlust Estate Stellenbosch, South Africa. The blend is 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot.

On the nose there is cherry, strawberry, plum, green bell pepper, herbal notes, vanilla, licorice, minerals and dark rich soil.

On the palate I am getting black cherry, blackberry, strawberry, black currant, licorice, green bell pepper, vanilla, some oak, minerality and soil.

The wine is full bodied with a smooth mouthfeel medium + acidity and medium + grippy mouthcoating tannins that leaves you with a ling black fruit mineral finish. Eventhough we are still in the in the midst of fall, there is a feel of winter crisp and clean on ones face. Déjà V Offida Passerina

2020 vintage.
Passerina is an ancient grape grown in Marche in clay and calcareous soil. Fermented in stainless steel with ageing “sur lies” for 4 months.
Fragrant and floral with citrus and honeysuckle on the nose. Dry with medium acidity. Pear, almond and citrus with a savoury, stoney minerality on the finish.
We BBQ‘d local fish.
Ling cod cheeks, Sablefish collars and Chinook Salmon bellies.

Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2016

This is the 2016 Rizzi Barbaresco Nebbiolo from Tresio, Italy.

On the nose is cherry, fennel, licorice, violets, clay pot and earth.

On the palate is sour cherry, cranberry, spice, licorice, roses, graphite and dried soil.

This wine medium to full bodied with medium+acidity and medium+ fine tannins that leads to a ling red fruit licorice finish. I hope everyone's year is starting out good. Please keep positive thoughts and stay healthy and safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

2020 vintage.
This is always a fantastic wine for the price.
White flowers, white peach and wet stone on the nose.
Fruity and floral with golden apples, yellow peach.
Intense, round and fresh with lots of citrus and green almond on the finish. Beautiful citrus and mineral finish with one not overwhelming the other.
We sautéed local Ling Cod fillets and Spot Prawns with this.

Château Cantemerle

Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2010

On Christmas Eve with family one of the wines we opened was the 2010 Château Cantemerle. A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot from the Haut-Médoc on the Left Bank of Bordeaux.

On the nose there was black cherry, blackberry, leather, licorice, black pepper, cigar box and dark earth.

On the palate was notes of black cherry, blackberry, licorice, espresso, toasted oak and dark gravelly soil. This wine is full bodied with a velvety opulent mouthfeel medium to medium+ acidity and medium+ smooth fine tannins that leaves you with a ling dark fruit earthy finish. What a wonderful wine this was. The Christmas season has been one of sharing with family and friends the love and caring for one another.
